Concrete fence posts are more durable and heavier than their timber cousins - but they are a lot less pretty…

A concrete post of 1.8m weighs in at a hefty 26kg - which does give a fence a lot more stability and less give in windy conditions. Other lighter weight alternatives come in at 19kg.
Posts can come with ready made bolt holes, slots and mortises. Sizes are as per timber with most common being 100mm square.
They retail for more than timber posts at around £13 ($26).

If you’re constructing a fence, don’t forget to attach a timber post cap to each post.

It can be flat or bevelled as per above - but essentially it’s purpose is to steer water away from the open grain of the post. This should help prevent the timber fence post rotting.
Given that each timber post cap retails for a meagre £1 ($2) it’s well worth making sure all your fence posts have one.

Timber posts are pretty crucial to a stable and strong fence. They are usually manufactured from softwood such as pine and can come ready treated. If you want your fence to last for any period of time - it’s crucial that the posts are treated.

Softwood timber posts can come ready cut with mortises and arris rails. Sizes come in 75mm or 100mm square and retail for around £10 ($20).
