This is a great little gizmo retailing for £40 ($74) at Black & Decker.

“The days when DIY gave you blisters and muscles are fading fast. The 400W Scorpion reciprocating saw comes with three blades (including a jigsaw) to power effortlessly through wood, plastic, PVC and (thin) metal at up to 5000 strokes per minute. And with comfortable polyurethane Gel Tech pads on the grip, your hands should stay soft as your biceps.”

Features:

• Cuts time. Cuts effort!
• Use in jigsaw mode for curve cutting in all types of wood and man made board.
• Unique swing shoe facility provides a firm platform for accurate cutting and shaping with total control.
• Scorpion dedicated metal cutting blades allow you to cut all types of non ferrous metal and even light gauge sheet steel.
• Tool-free push button blade change system means less work time.
• Safety lock-off switching prevents unintentional starting.
• Fingertip variable speed control for safe and accurate cutting.

READER COMMENTS:

This device works very well when you already have the skill to handle a handsaw.
When you do not have this skill you probably get disappointed by the Scorpion.

When you are using a hand saw then the question is, that you hardly put any force at the saw, but quietly let the sharpness of the saw do the work.

Exactly this should be done with the Scorpion too. Gently move it as if it were a handsaw hardly without force. Otherwise you ruin your wrists. A big omission that the manual of the Scorpion doesn’t spend a word on this issue.
