DIY Enthusiasts Turning to Professionals

Quotatis.co.uk a rather excellent web site that connects people with locally vetted tradesperson and service providers has come up with some interesting research.
It claims that the British obsession with dabbling with DIY is causing a 300 per cent surge in Monday maintenance requests. Requests for builders, plumbers, electricians and the like rises dramatically on Mondays, as homeowners seek to amend botched DIY projects attempted during the weekend. By contrast, Saturdays and Sundays account for just a tenth of calls received all week.
Derek Vaughan, managing director at Quotatis.co.uk says:
“With time on their hands at the weekends, people are tempted to have a go themselves if something needs fixing at home. But more often than not, something goes wrong. By Monday morning, people concede defeat and are ready to call in the professionals, which is why we see such a surge in requests at this time of the week. Ultimately, ordinary homeowners are novices, and most jobs actually require an expert. By calling in a tradesperson to do the job from the start, people will end up saving time and money.”
It’s a good point. When carrying out home improvement it’s sometimes important to realise your own limitations and bring the professionals in. If not, take advice, read up thoroughly and use Redoityourself.com!
The Quotatis research goes on to say that 74 per cent of homeowners attempt DIY, yet two thirds lack basic skills.
It’s a particularly salient point, in the context of DIY accidents....
