The key element to any contemporary kitchen nowadays is the Island Unit - and quite right to. They look great, offer additional work space and give a focal point for the family to coalesce.

Some key tips for those looking to integrate a kitchen island unit:

1. Don’t try to pack too much in. i.e maybe just have the hob or the sink not both.

2. Keep your kitchen island to a rectangular shape. This way you can have somewhere to perch for breakfast or just talk to whoever is cooking.

3. Make sure there is sufficient depth to the island. This should keep it safe and enable easy cleaning.

4. Before constructing the island, you need to make sure that the necessary connections are in place i.e gas, water, power etc plus ducting for an extractor hood.

For my money, following these tips and installing a high quality kitchen island unit is a sure fire value adder to your property. Afterall, the kitchen is probably regarded as the most important room in the house.
