Plants Growing on House Walls

There has been much written about which plants can enhance the aesthetics of a home. Some of it nonsense I hasten to add! For instance, anybody who claims that a wisteria can actually harm value must have had a lobotomy!

However, looking at this from a rational perspective it is important to bear some key things in mind:

1. Some climbing plants like ivy can grow voraciously - clogging gutters, damaging paintwork and entering roof voids.

2. Some buildings with susceptible foundations can be further weakened by planting climbers nearby.

3. Most climbers need sunny positions.

4. Some plants are self supporting, others need trellis like Wisteria.

5. Select a plant which matches well with the texture and colour of an elevation.
