Replacing a Baluster Fillet

The balsuter may be fitted into a groove in the underside of the rail, with the spaces between balusters filled with fillets of timber.

If a fillet has fallen out, then cut a new piece from timber ensuring that it is the correct size. Check the size of other fillets for reference. Simply nail your new fillet in place without using glue - you may have to remove the balusters at a later date.

If you don’t fancy crafting a baluster fillet you should be able to purchase ready made ones from most DIY retailers - however it is likely that these will still have to be adjusted in size.
