Treating Rusty Guttering

To treat rusty guttering you will need the following:

• A sturdy ladder with a stand off bracket.

• Protective safety goggles.

• Protective gloves.

• Wire brush.

• A cordless electric drill fitted with a wire brush wheel.

• Various sized paint brushes.

• Emery cloth.

• Specialist rust primer.

• Bitumen paint.

• Roof and gutter sealant.

The procedures for repairing rusty guttering are as follows:

• Using the emery cloth and wire brush to remove any rust on the gutter.

• For more stubborn rust, use the drill with fitted wire brush wheel. Make sure you wear protective goggles and gloves.

• Carefully apply a layer of primer to the affected area.

• If there are any holes or cracks in the gutter - use the sealant to fill these in.

• Apply two coats of black bitumen.
