Using Foam Filler Around Pipe Cavities

Posted by Bob Bulmer on Mon 8th October 2007 at 06:00 AM, Filed in DecorPlumbing

By their very nature, pipes have to cut through walls. This results in an unsightly gap around the pipe which is difficult to fill.

The way to deal with this is to use foam filler. The foam itself is very sticky and unwieldy, so be sure to wear protective gloves.

The foam should be applied as follows:

• Clean up the cavity around the pipe and then dampen using a cloth.

• The foam should be in a pressurized canister with a directional nozzle. Pointing the nozzle at the cavity, gently spray foam around the pipe.

• Let the foam set hard for 2 hours. Whilst wearing a dust mask - remove the excess foam by using a hacksaw.
